Dream Project is a UW organization dedicated to helping under-represented high school students prepare for college and careers. I was mentored by a Dream Project member when I was in high school and wanted to return the favor when I got to UW. In my first year with Dream Project I volunteered to return to my high school once a week and mentor students and lead workshops. After volunteering for a year I became a College and Career Readiness Assistant which was a part-time, paid position. As a College and Career Readiness Assistant I focused on helping students figure out their post-high school plans. I developed career workshops, reviewed college and FAFSA applications, created community programs, and gave large presentations to schools. My time with dream project was extremely valuable and allowed me to give back to my community while also gaining skills in areas such as facilitation and communication.
