Below I have included a variety of pieces of academic work to showcase some of my favorite projects and the skills I have gained. These artifacts represent a wide-range of coursework on topics that include sustainability, urban planning, real estate, and design.
City of Auburn Placemaking Report - CEP460
In a course titled Planning in Context the class partnered with the city of Auburn as part of Livable City Year to create a Community Placemaking report full of observations, research, and suggestions about how to increase placemaking efforts in the city. This class was very exciting because it allowed us to apply our conceptual knowledge of urban planning to a real world situation. We gathered data about the city using observations, surveys, and interviews and then used placemaking literature to develop solutions to the problems we identified. Our final report was almost 80 pages, so I will only include here my favorite part that I got to work on which was a strategy regarding the activation of a public plaza space.
Property Appraisal Project - RE510
In RE510, Introduction to Real Estate, I learned a variety of essential real estate skills including market analysis techniques, property appraisal, discounted cash flow analysis, and loan financing. For our final project we picked a property to do a full analysis of and I chose an apartment complex in the University District. I used what I learned in the class to asses the market trends in the area, analyze the financial situation of the owner and developer, and present a final appraisal of the property.
Building Relocation Project - CEP473
In the Digital Design Practicum class we learned how to use Photoshop, InDesign, ArcGIS, and Sketchup to digitally represent the built environment. The course focused on analyzing urban issues in Capitol Hill's Pike/Pine Conservation Overlay District. For this project I used InDesign and Photoshop to create a report detailing the hypothetical transfer of a character structure to a new site in the Capitol Hill neighborhood. The models show an elevation view created using a stitched photo montage as well as a perspective view of the site before and after the transfer.
