I participated in two internships during my time at the University of Washington. The positions I held were Sales Intern at Waterways Cruises and Events and Marketing Intern at Sustainable Business Consulting. These jobs gave me my first insight into the professional world and allowed me to gain a tremendous amount of useful experience that I can take with me as I begin my career. My internships at both companies provided me with solid business skills in sales and marketing that were an excellent supplement to my course work in CEP.
Sales Intern - Waterways Cruises and Events
I interned in the sales department of Waterways Cruises and Events during the summer between my junior and senior years. This was my first full-time job and I am very grateful for the opportunity Waterways gave me to work on their amazing team. Waterways Cruises provides elegant cruising experiences on Seattle's lakes for both public and private events. In my role I assisted with a variety of aspects within the company. Some of my duties included helping to organize the events, contacting customers, maintaining sales accounts, and reviewing proposal requests. Waterways is a small, family-owned company and so I had the privelage of interacting with the general manager, CEO, and departmental heads on a day-to-day basis and sit in on company meetings. This exposure to a professional business setting prepared me tremendously for my future career.

Marketing Intern - Sustainable Business Consulting
After completing my internship at Waterways I then interned at Sustainable Business Consulting during the fall quarter of my senior year. Sustainable Business Consulting works with companies to help them become more sustainable, both environmentally and financially. I was very excited to intern at a company that was doing such impactful work and loved being a part of their motivated team. In my role I focused mainly on marketing their newest book titled Sustainability Jobs. To do this I contacted marketing leads through phone and email, compiled an excel database of over 500 of marketing contacts, an managed the companies social media accounts. I also got to work on some side projects that involved doing market trend research for multi-billion dollar companies and editing blog posts on the company website.
